Myco Plastics, Inc. Acquires 9.444-Acre Property from Texas Basket Factory for Expansion

Myco Plastics, Inc. has recently announced the acquisition of a 9.444-acre property adjacent to its existing facilities from the Texas Basket Factory. The purchase marks a significant milestone in Myco Plastics' expansion plans, signaling the company's commitment to growth and investment in the local community.

The newly acquired property is set to undergo a series of transformative changes in the coming year. Plans include the demolition of the current structures to make way for an ambitious expansion project aimed at increasing warehousing and production space. This expansion will enable Myco Plastics to meet growing demand and further solidify its position as a key player in the industry.
"We are thrilled to have secured this property next to our existing facilities," said Josh Hanna, President at Myco Plastics. "This acquisition presents an exciting opportunity for us to expand our operations and better serve our customers."

The phased approach to the property development will allow Myco Plastics to manage the expansion effectively. The company plans to begin demolition on the current structures within the next year, followed by subsequent phases of plant expansion over the coming years.
Myco Plastics, Inc. Named Title Sponsor of the Elite Outlaw Sprint Series

Myco Plastics, Inc. has been named the title sponsor to the newly formed ASCS Elite Outlaw Sprint Series.

Adding another series to his lineup of competition around the state of Texas, Nathan Moore will debut the ASCS Elite Outlaw Sprints in 2023.
​
For the 2023 season, the ASCS Elite Outlaw Sprints will operate, like the Non-Wing Series, under the banner of American Sprint Car Series (ASCS), but will be an open-engine class. Car and tire rules will fall under the guidelines set by ASCS. Point, press, and information will be handled by ASCS.

Jacksonville Awards January's Business and Beauty Award to Myco

With the help the Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation's (JEDCO) "Operation Facelift" initiative, Myco Plastics, Inc. has been awarded January's Business and Beauty award from The Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Committee to recognize the hard work put into renovating the exterior of their building. Since being purchased by SCP Polymers, Inc. in 2018, this is the second award given to Myco during that period. Myco plans on continuing the improvements of the exterior and interior of the building in the coming months and years.

Jacksonville, TX Employer of the Month

The Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation (JEDCO) has awarded Myco Plastics, Inc. as the October Employer of the Month. Mississippi-based SCP Polymers purchased Myco in March 2018 and since then they have been hard at work improving their building and preparing for additional capital investment in Jacksonville. The new ownership group has also provided advancement opportunities for their employees and brought on a new sales manager to diversify and grow the business. The company specializes in contract plastic injection molding and has brought countless federal dollars to Jacksonville through defense contracts.

Myco Plastics, Inc. was highlighted recently in a marketing video that aims to increase awareness of career opportunities within the DoD's Defense Industrial Base in East Texas. The promotion will highlight that working within the Defense Industrial Base can be cool, life changing, and patriotic.
New ATR-IR Spectrometer

Myco Plastics, Inc. has acquired a new Bruker ALPHA II infrared spectrometer for polymer characterization. This will allow Myco to assist customers with resin identification.
The ALPHA II is intensively used in the polymer industry. The ALPHA II inspects incoming raw materials, test finished products, and investigate coated surfaces. One of the biggest user benefits, are Bruker's dedicated, up-to-date, and ready-to-use methods to identify and characterize recently introduced polymers and fillers.

New 180-Ton Press

Myco Plastics, Inc. has installed a new 180-Ton press to replace old equipment in the facility. This new press will allow Myco Plastics, Inc. to continue their plan of upgrading outdated machinery. The new new molding machine was purchased through 1st Choice Plastic Machinery who has been a valuable partner in supplying high quality equipment.
Myco Purchases Jacksonville Tool & Die, Inc.

In November, Jacksonville’s own Myco Plastics, Inc. (Myco) closed on the purchase of Jacksonville Tool & Die, Inc. (JTD). Myco CEO Bud Hanna said, “since the purchase of Myco, we’ve always had the desire to build our own toolroom. Our internal toolroom at our site in Mississippi has been vital to reducing costs in our tooling maintenance and repair programs. However, when Mart O. Betts offered to partner with us, it was an easy decision to go that route instead.” After the completion of the purchase, however, Myco will continue to operate the business as JTD at its current location at TX-456 Loop.
“Although JTD will be purchased by Myco, the operation of the two sites will remain separate as to not interfere with JTD’s current customer base” said Myco President and General Manager Joshua Hanna. “This move will allow us to vertically integrate our ability to maintain and repair tools, but won’t affect JTD’s current customers or our current tooling suppliers.”
Immediate plans by Myco include updating JTD’s resource management software, updating their supplier network, and transitioning unused equipment to Myco.
2020 Year-End Review of Myco Plastics, Inc.

Although we did not get to celebrate the end of the year as normal due to the pandemic, the Myco Plastics, Inc. team still had plenty to be thankful for. By instituting a mask mandate in April, we were able to record zero community transmission of SARS-COV-2 within our facility in 2020. Unfortunately, we did have employees become sick over the year with the novel virus but we are pleased to report that each person has recovered fully, to date. Although the worse of the virus may still be ahead of us, we are grateful for our employees for coming together, and staying apart, to limit the spread of COVID-19 and finish the year strong. Renovations Underway

Myco Plastics, Inc. has begun renovations to the historic Jacksonville building that once housed businesses vital to the tomato and rose industry from the 1940's. Through the Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation's (JEDCO) "Operation Facelift" initiative, Myco Plastics, Inc. was able to update the exterior of the building and it will be completed by August. Interior renovations should get started within the next year.
Mississippi-based company invests in Jacksonville

In March, Booneville, Mississippi-based South Central Polymers, Inc. (SCP) closed on the purchase of Myco Plastics, Inc. (Myco). SCP President and CEO Bud Hanna said, “the company [SCP] was originally planning to expand into another market, but was drawn to Jacksonville by the strength of its existing plastics industry.” SCP will continue to operate as Myco in Jacksonville.
“A driver in the decision to purchase Myco was the talent and tenure of the current employees” said SCP Vice-President and General Manager Joshua Hanna. “Approximately a third of the current employees have worked at Myco for more than 10-years and in April we were pleased to announce pay raises for our people.”

Immediate plans by SCP include interior and exterior improvements to their location on US HWY 79. Near-term plans include expansion of the building, investment in additional injection-molding equipment, and growth in employee count.
​
“Jacksonville’s robust plastics industry continues to draw outside investment, and the Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation (JEDCO) is committed to leveraging our position in the market”, said JEDCO Chairman of the Board Darrell Dement. “We look forward to building a strong relationship with SCP and appreciate their investment.”

For the the first time since 2019 we were able to celebrate our end of the year with a proper party! Thanks to the hosts at Times Square Grand Slam in Tyler, TX for providing a wonderful meal along with bowling, laser tag, and arcade games, the family at Myco were able to celebrate another solid year among the difficult manufacturing headwinds. At the end of the party we were able to recognize those who helped us get through the year with excellent effort:

Myco Mourns the Loss of Former Owner Ed Snider

Edward “Ed” Gray Snider, 76, of Jacksonville, passed into the arms of Jesus on August 31, 2022, with his beloved wife by his side.
​
Ed was born April 8, 1946, to Herman G. and Sallie B. (Burgamy) Snider. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville. For 27 years, Mr. Snider was the President and CEO of Myco Plastics Inc. He was an avid Harley Davidson rider and enjoyed being a private airline pilot.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish Ed’s memory are his loving wife of 25 years, Anita Snider; and daughter, Brittany Warren and husband Jared; sisters, Elizabeth Anne Barker and Miriam Pulliam and husband Buddy; and brother, Herman G. Snider. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brilee and Jace Warren; sister-in-law, Dianne LeBlanc and husband Russell; mother-in-law, Mary J. Reynolds; and nieces and nephews, John Barker III, Sallie Barker, William Snider, Christina Snider, Victoria Snider, and Chad LeBlanc.

A funeral service is scheduled 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Dr. Bruce Webb officiating and Tom Gaubert speaking. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Still Waters Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jared Warren, Joe Casey, Clint Goff, Tim Yeary, Dakota Yeary, and Edgar Castillo. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Greer, Dr. Charles Creed, Tom Gaubert, Kirk Sadler, Curtis Reynolds, and David Reynolds.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that a memorial donation be made to a charity of your choice.

Myco Mourns the Loss of Andrew Acosta

Andrew Acosta (43) of Jacksonville, Texas passed away on August 27th, 2021. He was born in San Antonio, Texas.
​
Andrew enjoyed dancing, camping, and taking road trips to other states with his family. he was also a big sports fanatic, especially San Antonio Spurs, Texas Longhorns, and Dallas Cowboys.
​
Andrew is preceeded in death by his grandmother Carolina Maldonado, father Andrew Maldonado, and Aunt Diana Acosta.
​
He is survived by his wife Monica Serrato; Children Chris, Charles, and Gabriela; mother Rosemary Acosta (Manuel); sister Sarah Maldonado; nephew Marcus and niece Camila. Andrew also has many aunt, uncles, cousins, in-laws, friends and coworkers at Myco Plastics and Cardinal Health who will miss him dearly.

The outbreak and continued spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is causing a lot of concern for increased risk associated with raw material supply availability.

Currently, we are not aware of any disruption in our ability to maintain adequate levels of supply due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) but know this will change on a part by part basis with some cargo delays from China and Europe.
​
We evaluate each order’s lead-time at the time we receive the order and will give you the date we feel comfortable with at the time of confirmation. We are in constant communication with our suppliers and will alert our customers as soon as we are made aware of a potential issue involving your product or a change to the delivery status. We are taking the following precautionary steps to prevent the spread of the virus:
